In light of the guidance we’ve all been given about physical distancing, you are likely making changes to your in-person training offerings. You may be thinking of cancelling them or converting them to virtual, live delivery. Our customers are making this change now.
One Learndot customer announced the change on their website a few weeks ago before most travel bans took place in an effort to sooth customer concerns. They posted this on their training site:
“Notice: Due to concerns with COVID-19, all in-classroom offerings scheduled March 16 - May 31, 2020 will be delivered as virtual, instructor-led classes.”
Then they offered discounts on virtual classes offering to buy one seat, get one seat free.
Obviously, there’s more to converting an in-person course to virtual, live delivery, but with the right LMS, you can make changes on your website in a matter of minutes, depending on how many in-person events you have currently scheduled.
In Learndot, for example, you can simply change the location of your in-person events from a physical address to a “Virtual Location.” It is a matter of changing a field.
If you think about it…nothing else about the course should change. The description of what the course will cover and why someone should take it is the same. The learning objectives remain the same. The only difference is the location.
Look at it this way: What if you had to change a physical location of a class from one hotel ballroom to another? You would just swamp out the name of the room and proceed as normal.
Switching the location of your classes from the event space you rented in Brussels to a virtual location, just means customers need to join the link you send out instead of getting on a plane or a train or drive down to the event center.
Easier said than done, I know. But the mindset for the change is that simple.
For a successful transition, communication is key.
Email customers who are already enrolled
You may have customers already enrolled in your in-person courses. At this point, most people are not expecting to attend anything in person. But unless you communicate to these customers, they may be expecting the class to just be cancelled.
Make sure you email these customers and tell them about the change in delivery method and provide them instructions about logistics that they need to feel comfortable attending.
Be as detailed as possible about logistics and what to expect during the virtual deliver. In this case, you probably cannot over communicate.
A new virtual classroom product: Strigo
There is a new virtual classroom product that you may not have heard of yet. It’s called Strigo.
